A few months back, I had the pleasure of spending 10 days at one of the most amazing resorts I’ve ever visited, Secrets Maroma Beach. Now I wish I could say it was 10 days of endless beach lounging, swim up bar fun and daily spa visits…but it was primarily a work trip (although I did partake in some of those activities 🙂 ) Escorting a large group of almost 200 people is no simple feat, but I love being able to work in paradise!
I have to say, the resort is absolutely stunning in every way. From the moment you walk into the lobby and the bell person greeting you at your vehicle says “welcome home”, you know you’re in the right place. Let me break down the resort experience:
LOBBY AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
The lobby is infused with a scent that I wasn’t quite able to identify, but it smelled wonderful and looked even better. After being greeted by name by the front desk staff, a very quick check in (we were in Preferred Club accommodations) we were whisked away on a private golf cart to our building and escorted to our beautiful room.
All of the rooms at Secrets Maroma are very spacious, and have a big jacuzzi tub in the bathroom with a separate walk in shower. The Preferred club rooms also have a tub on the balcony, and one of the things I really liked is that each room has it’s own wifi router (which means a great signal) and also a clothes steamer.
If you want a higher level of pampering and amenities, then you definitely will want to book a Preferred Club room, but otherwise the rooms all basically look the same on the inside (with the exception of the honeymoon suite and presidential suite which are much larger and have a separate living area). The Preferred Club gives you a better room location, upgraded in room amenities and access to the preferred club lounge (which I visited quite frequently to work in). Each building has it’s own dedicated concierge, located on the ground floor next to the elevator. The concierge is there daily 9 am to 5 pm and they can assist with anything that you may need. My concierge during our stay was Fernanda, who was so sweet and helpful. I have no clue how she remembered so many little details but she was always one step ahead of anything that I needed! POOLS: The main pool and the infinity pool both look out over the gorgeous Caribbean Sea, with the main pool having the always popular swim up bar and daily activities such as volleyball and water aerobics. The infinity pool is the more quiet of the two but I have to say during mid November I found it just a tad bit cool to spend much time in. RESORT GROUNDS: Pictures are worth 1000 words…
BEACH:If you are a true beach person this is the place for you. This beach is hands down INCREDIBLE! The sand is powdery soft, white and impeccably maintained. The beach is wide with a generous amount of beach loungers and palapas.
There are 7 restaurants, plus a cafe and grill, all no reservations required. The food at this property is incredibly good, fresh and expertly prepared. Attention to detail is obvious in every dish served. All rooms receive 24 hour room service as well.
There’s a wide range of choices (Mexican, Asian, Italian, Seafood, French and international), and theme nights throughout the week. The World Cafe breakfast buffet is quite extensive, and has everything from cooked to order omelets and crepes to freshly prepared fruit smoothies. You will never lack for a meal at this resort! We particularly enjoyed the Brazilian rodizio steakhouse evening, it was a meat lover’s dream!
Without hesitation, I can attest that the staff at Secrets Maroma Beach is second to none. Every single employee has a smile for you, and greets you with a cheery “hola” anytime they see you. The entertainment staff was so fun and some of the most energetic people I’ve ever met. They worked very long days but seemed to truly enjoy every minute of it. Everyone from the housekeeping staff and bellmen to the groups people, restaurant servers, groundskeepers and front desk staff were true professionals. I have to give a particular shout out to the chief concierge, Carlos, and the groups coordinator Horacio that I worked with (for many months before our arrival) to get all the details in place to make our trip such a huge success.
FINAL THOUGHTS: This property is outstanding in every way, and is a great choice for a romantic honeymoon, a destination wedding (more about this in a later blog post!), an adults only getaway and for groups both small and large. The resort team handled our group of 200 without a hitch! If you’re thinking about a getaway to Secrets Maroma Beach, give us a call! We’re happy to be of assistance.
